The Turkmen delegation consisting of representatives of state bodies and business structures met in Tbilisi with the Director General of the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation Georgy Chikovani, Orient reports citing the Georgian media.

The main purpose of the talks was to discuss the current situation and plans for future cooperation in the energy sector. Among the topics discussed were simplification of transit procedures and an increase in the volume of petroleum products supplied from Turkmenistan, joint implementation of infrastructure projects.

Giorgi Chikovani introduced the guests with the agenda of the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, focused on the importance of diversifying the partnership in the energy sector, including trade in products made from natural gas. The parties noted their readiness to continue cooperation.

The meeting was also attended by a representative of the State Concern “Turkmengaz”, who spoke in favor of intensifying the partnership between the two countries in the field of trade in natural gas and its processed products. The representative of Türkmengaz emphasized the necessity of enhancement of successful activities initiated between these two countries in the trade of natural gas and its derivative products. The parties expressed their willingness to further the cooperation and expressed a desire to dynamically develop a joint working process.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Georgia Dovlet Muratov.

As part of the visit, representatives of the delegation of Turkmenistan also held a meeting last week with Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Khvtisiashvili at the Georgian Foreign Ministry, bilateral negotiations were held in a number of other departments on the topic of deepening economic ties between the two countries and the effective use of their transit potential.

Among the topics discussed are simplification of procedures for the transit of petroleum products and an increase in their volumes, as well as the import of petroleum products, joint implementation of infrastructure projects related to the processing and storage of petroleum products.
